Help Us Save and Preserve History
The history of our old fire brigades is not only found in archives and museums.
It can also be found in photographs in old family albums, documents tucked away in drawers, fire helmets stored in attics, equipment forgotten in sheds, and in the stories and memories that still live on among people in our communities.
By donating objects, photographs, documents, information or money to the Edenberga Volunteer Fire Brigade, you can help us preserve this history for future generations.
Our main interest is material connected to Edenberga and the historic fire brigades within what is now Laholm Municipality, but firefighting-related historical material from other parts of Sweden may also be of interest.
Do You Have Something from an Old Fire Brigade?
A photograph in an old album, a fire helmet in the attic or a few papers in a box may seem insignificant.
To us, they could be a missing piece in the story of our local fire brigades.
We are interested in almost anything connected with historic firefighting and fire brigade activities. This might include fire helmets, uniforms, badges, hand-operated fire pumps, hoses, nozzles, couplings, fire extinguishers, tools, equipment, vehicle parts and other objects.
But history consists of much more than physical objects.
Minutes of meetings, membership records, letters, drawings, fire reports, instructions, newspaper clippings, advertisements, programmes, membership cards and other documents can contain information that might otherwise be lost forever.
Nothing is too small or insignificant to ask us about.
Please contact us before throwing away anything connected with an old fire brigade. Something that may appear unimportant at first could contain valuable historical information.
Photographs Are Especially Valuable
Old photographs are among our most important sources of information.
We are looking for photographs of firefighters, fire stations, fire engines, equipment, training exercises, emergency call-outs, fires, anniversaries and other events connected with local fire brigades.
You never have to part with an original photograph if you do not want to.
If you are able to scan the photograph yourself, we are very happy to receive a digital copy. We can also borrow the original, scan it ourselves and then return it to you.
If a photograph is particularly valuable or fragile, and the distance is not too great, we may in some cases be able to visit you and digitise it on site.
If you know anything about the photograph – who the people are, where it was taken, approximately when it was taken or what occasion it shows – we would be very grateful to receive that information as well.
Stories and Memories Are History Too
You do not need to own an old object to make a valuable contribution.
Perhaps you remember someone who served as a firefighter. Maybe you know a story about an emergency call-out, a fire or everyday life at the fire station. Perhaps you can identify people in an old photograph or know where an old fire station once stood.
Information like this can be just as valuable as a physical object.
We are actively collecting and documenting the history of the Edenberga Volunteer Fire Brigade and other historic fire brigades within what is now Laholm Municipality.
Every name, photograph, story and piece of information can help us add another piece to the historical puzzle.
Donate an Object to the Museum
If you would like to donate a historic object to us, you are very welcome to contact the association.
When an object is accepted as a donation, our general principle is that it is transferred to the Edenberga Volunteer Fire Brigade and becomes the property of the association, allowing us to preserve, document and care for it as part of our collection and activities for the future.
At the same time, we must reserve the right to assess each proposed donation. Our space and resources are limited, which means that we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accept everything that is offered to us.
This does not mean that an object has no historical value – only that we have to make decisions based on the association’s activities, collections and available resources.
For larger objects, the association may in some cases be able to arrange collection, provided that the distance is reasonable.
Would You Prefer to Lend Something to Us?
In some cases, we are also interested in borrowing objects or other material for exhibition or documentation purposes.
Such loans should always be made for a clearly agreed and specified period of time, so that both the owner and the association know exactly what has been agreed.
Please contact us and we can discuss the most suitable arrangement.
Make a Financial Donation
You can also support our work by making a financial donation.
Your contribution helps us with the operation and maintenance of our protected historic fire station from 1929, the preservation of our historic vehicles and objects, the museum, exhibitions, historical research and documentation.
We particularly appreciate unrestricted donations, as they allow us to use the funds wherever they are needed most at the time.
Donations can be made via Swish.
Simply send an amount of your choice to the association’s Swish number shown on this page and mark the payment with:
GIFT + your name
You can also use the QR code on this page to make your donation easily.
Every contribution – large or small – helps us continue our work.
For donations from outside Sweden, please check the "international donation" box in the contact form to the right, and the association will get in touch.
Make a Gift in Memory of Someone
A donation to the association can also be a meaningful way to honour the memory of someone who has passed away.
Perhaps that person was a firefighter, had a connection to the local area, or shared an interest in local history, historic vehicles or the preservation of our cultural heritage.
A memorial donation helps us carry history forward while honouring the memory of someone who was themselves a part of that history.
Please contact us if you would like to make a memorial donation.
We Would Like to Say Thank You
Behind every donation is a person, family, association or company that has chosen to help us preserve history.
We would therefore like to be able to record where a donation came from and, when the donor wishes, acknowledge and thank them for their contribution.
Of course, we also fully respect anyone who prefers to make a donation without public recognition.
Do You Have Something That Might Be of Interest?
Are you unsure whether an object, photograph or document might be of interest to us?
It is always better to ask us than to risk something being lost.
Please send us a photograph and a few lines describing what you have, and together we can determine whether it would be suitable for our activities or collections.
Something that has been forgotten in a box for many years may contain a story that no one else knows.
Help us find that story before it disappears.
By donating objects, sharing photographs and stories, or making a financial contribution, you are helping the Edenberga Volunteer Fire Brigade preserve a part of our shared history.
Thank you for helping us pass it on to future generations.
